24 new World Heritage sites

The recent UNESCO meeting in Bonn have inscribed another 24 World Heritage sites around the world to bring the total to 1031 in 163 different countries.

Among these worthy locations are; the Norman Cathedrals of Monreale and Cefalu; Susa in Iran; the Missions of San Antonio (including the Alamo); Singapore Botanic Gardens and the Forth Road Bridge.

Perhaps slightly more unusual entrants included the Meji era sites of Japan’s Industrial Revolution and, my favourite, the Fray-Bentos Cultural-Industrial landscape of Uruguay.

Fray Bentos - Hector Gomez

Among the more distinct ‘local’ sites are the Hillsides of Champagne and the Terroirs of Burgundy plus the Hellenic/Roman era site of Ephesus – I had always assumed this was a World Heritage Site already.

TTB - Library Celsus, Ephesus

Putney Travel are more than happy to arrange travel to most of the new sites and indeed most of those already on the list.
