Make the most of the strong pound

We all like an extra excuse to take a holiday and what better than the steadily growing strength of the pound over the last year!

The biggest price falls have been in Penang, Malaysia with a basket of tourist items now being 41% cheaper year on year. As the self-proclaimed foodie capital of SE Asia this is definitely a place to visit.

123rf - Malaysian street food

Bali is finding it’s way back into favour and of the long haul resorts it is the cheapest surveyed for the 3rd year running followed by Cape Town.

Cape Town, South Africa - 123rf

Japan continues to be better value with prices down 21.5% and even without this many visitors are amazed by what good value Japan can be for many items – food and drink for example. This combination of the strong pound and falling local prices means that Japan is now an incredible 50% cheaper than 2013.

JNTO - sushi

Last but not least if you are heading ‘Down Under’ you may find you are getting 20% more Aussie and New Zealand dollars than last Autumn.

Nearer to home the Euro is looking better value than last autumn with the pound being almost 10% up however for the best value in the Mediterranean we have traditionally pointed to Turkey and at the moment it is no exception – the pound is 25% up on the Lira compared with last year.

TTB - istanbul skyline

Putney Travel have travelled widely in all these destinations and are happy to advise on and book your holiday to any of them!
